Astronomical discoveries reveal ever more amazing views of our universe, unveiling beautiful nebulae, immense star clusters, colliding galaxies, and countless other wonders. In this lecture, research astrophysicist Dr. Anton M. Koekemoer presents the latest exciting astronomical highlights, including images from the Hubble Space Telescope, that were used to inspire some of the beautiful illustrations in The Saint John’s Bible. He also shares some personal reflections, from his own perspective as a Christian, on how our scientific view of the universe can be reconciled in harmony with religion, for a deeper appreciation of the universe in which we live.
ANTON M. KOEKEMOER is a research astrophysicist with the Hubble Space Telescope at the Space Telescope Science Institute, and has been on its scientific research staff for over 20 years. He has also held research positions at Leiden University, the Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris, and NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. His research covers distant galaxies and black holes, and he has authored/coauthored over 500 astrophysics research papers in professional scientific journals, as well as leading the imaging work for the Hubble Ultra Deep Field and related projects. He is also a Christian, and is involved in the dialog to reconcile religion with our scientific understanding of the universe.
