Poor in Spirit

This lecture will focus on the significance of the poor and opppressed. Fr. Nolan will try to interpret for Canadian Christians the often misunderstood biblical phrase "poor in spirit" Building on the work of Gustavo gutierrez , he will also introduce some uniquely South African insights.

Albert Nolan, O.P.

Albert Nolan, O.P. holds a doctorate in theology and has lectured extensifely in this field through-out South Africa and in many parts of the world. He has wide experience in university chaplaincy, having served as Chaplain to Young Christian Students, and ecumenical organization of universty and hig school students. In this capacity, he worked in the black townships of South Africa. Fr. Nolan was Provincial of the Dominican Order from 1976-1984 and is currently Regent of Studes of his Order. He is author of several articles and books, including "Jesus before Christianity" (1976), "Biblical Spirituality" (1980), "To Nourish Our Fiath" (1986) and "God in South Africa" (1988).
