When you’re exploring university residences, your comparative shopping will start with the bricks-and-mortar details: Where is the building located and what does it look like? How many students live there? What kinds of rooms are available? How much does it cost?
Location
St. Jerome’s is one of the most centrally located residences at the University of Waterloo. Just right across from the Student Life Center, Physical Activities Complex, and close to many Faculty of Arts buildings.

Residents
Students from any of the six faculties at the University of Waterloo can apply to the St. Jerome’s Residence. Even upper year students can apply to live at St. Jerome’s.
While many of our students are from Ontario, we have students from British Columbia to Nova Scotia, from the USA, Russia, China, Malaysia, India, Mauritius, and Australia.
Important:
You don’t have to be an Arts student or be registered at SJU to live in the warm, welcoming SJU residence.
The St. Jerome's residence is open to undergraduate students in all six faculties at the University of Waterloo.
Room Types
We have 398 beds in the residence - that's 218 single rooms and 90 double rooms. You should know that spaces in single rooms are limited and require payment of an extra Single Supplement fee of $600 per term. An open but safe, tight-knit environment is maintained in each residence area.

Inside Your Room
Once you’ve moved into residence, you’ll add your personality to make your room your own. Here’s what you’ll find when you get here:
- Bed
- Desk and desk chair
- Lounge chair (J.R. Finn Residence only.)
- Wardrobe and dresser
- Mini-fridge
- Sink and vanity (Siegfried and Ryan Hall Residence only.)
- Internet service
- Air-conditioning
Residence Fees
Like your tuition and incidental fees, your residence fees are calculated for each four-month term. At SJU, your residence fees include your all-inclusive meal plan and also all incidental, activity, and miscellaneous fees related to living in the SJU Residence.

Please note that SJU’s residence fees are subject to approval by the SJU Board of Governors in June each year, which means that they could change. We’ll confirm the exact amount of your fees no later than 60 days before the start of the term.
Your $500 deposit
When you rank your residence choices through the online ranking process, you must pay a non-refundable $500 deposit. Your deposit will be credited to your Waterloo fee statement for the first term of your residence contract, and you’ll see it included on your Quest account.
Paying your fees
- Your residence fees will be posted to your Quest account four or five weeks before your classes begin in September.
- They’re due just before the fall term begins.
- It’s your responsibility to monitor your Quest account for updates that could affect what you owe if your residence accommodations change.
You can pay your residence fees in a number of ways: certified cheque or money order, bank payment, bank transfer, or international wire transfer. More information about paying all of your Waterloo fees can be found on the University of Waterloo's Student Accounts web page.
