The St. Jerome's University's Sexuality, Marriage, and Family Studies Department and the St. Jerome's University HeForShe Committee present a public lecture by Mary Gordon, founder and president of Roots of Empathy, on the power of empathy.
This lecture is free to attend and will be held in the Vanstone Lecture Hall, St. Jerome's University in Waterloo.
Internationally recognized social entrepreneur, educator, author, child advocate, and parenting expert, Mary Gordon has created programs informed by the power of empathy. She is the founder and president of the Roots of Empathy and the Seeds of Empathy programs. Gordon is also the founder of Canada’s first and largest school-based Parenting and Family Literacy Centres which have become public policy in Ontario and have been used as a best practice model internationally. Gordon has shared her expertise with organizations such as the World Health Organization, the Skoll World Forum, and the United Nations, and is the recipient of the Manning Innovation Award, the Ontario Teachers Federation Lifetime Fellowship Award, and the Public Education Advocacy Award from the Canadian Teachers’ Federation.
