St. Jerome’s University (SJU) is taking a new approach to its annual Graduation Ceremony celebration this year. All SJU 2021 Graduates and their families are invited to participate in the new online format, being held on Microsoft Teams Live Event on June 13, 2021 at 2:00 p.m.

“Every year our community looks forward to the Graduation Ceremony. It is a time to join graduates and their families and friends celebrating their success and to welcome them as new alum,” noted Registrar and Graduation Committee Co-chair, Sue Brubacher. “It was so disappointing last year to not meet with our graduates in this way. We did our best to pay tribute to our 2020 Grads with an online message from our president and a congratulatory video uploaded to our website. In 2021, we now have the technology and time to organize and bring this ceremony to an online platform.”

With the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic the priority for the university has remained the same: the health, well-being, and safety of students and all those who come onto the SJU campus. SJU campus buildings remain closed. The online ceremony alternative offers the opportunity to share elements of what would have been part of the onsite ceremony, in live and recorded format, including messages from the university’s President and Vice Chancellor, Peter Meehan; Interim Vice President Academic and Dean, Cristina Vanin; and SJU’s Chancellor Bruce Rodrigues; and the popular address to students by the Zach Ralston Award winners. Graduates will also be featured in a video presentation and offered the opportunity to connect with other graduates online following the ceremony.

“We would all prefer to be meeting in person for this celebration,” added Director, Campus Ministry and Graduation Committee Co-chair, Sean Hayes. “We still plan on having an on-campus celebration reunion event for both of our 2020 and 2021 graduates, when COVID-19 gathering restrictions permit. In the meantime, we hope that this online option offers a place for us to gather as a community to celebrate with our graduates and their families.”
