Kerry LAPPIN-FORTIN retired from her role as a professor, and past Chair, of the Department of Italian and French Studies, and is now a Professor Emerita at SJU. She is described by the department's current Chair, Associate Professor, Bruno Tremblay, "as a supremely-gifted teacher and a great lover of all things French, esteemed colleague, conscientious-to-a-fault chair, and admired human being."
Kerry fell in love with the French language at the height of (Pierre) Trudeaumania and was determined to become bilingue. She retires from a career that includes teaching French language, linguistics, and translation. She also shared her enthusiasm as a cinéphile at SJU, introducing a French film series Soirées ciné on campus.
"The devotion of this graduate from Glendon | York University (1977), the University of Toronto (1978), and the Université de Montréal (1982) to the good of French studies and more broadly of students and the institution she served so well for decades, will indeed be sorely missed."
