University Announces Plans for Winter Term
St. Jerome’s University (SJU) will align with the University of Waterloo’s (UW) plans to continue instruction online for the winter term, in keeping with the fall term. In an announcement made by the University of Waterloo’s President, Feridun Hamdullahpur, this news will help students to prepare “with confidence” for the upcoming term. SJU will continue to follow the guidelines provided by the Ontario Government, Community Public Health, and the University of Waterloo to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
Some key academic buildings on UW’s campus will continue to be open to support students who choose to be in Waterloo to study, or who have courses with elements that will happen in person. At SJU building closures and restricted access will continue into the upcoming term, with no immediate change in return to research and work-from-home arrangements already in place for employees.
UW leadership had remained optimistic that the gradual return to campus instruction and learning could expand, but with the recent surge in COVID-19 cases in Ontario Hamdullahpur notes that it “makes it clear that the virus and our collective efforts to stop the spread need our continued attention.” Updates from UW are posted to the university’s COVID Information website.
SJU’s return to campus team has been vigilantly focused on keeping campus safe, for students in residence, those working on campus, and those linked to the community. Updates about SJU’s response to COVID-19 are available on the university’s website.
