SJU Giving Challenge Supports Student Wellness Initiatives
On Tuesday, November 29th, 2022, show your support for St. Jerome’s University wellness initiatives by donating to the Giving Tuesday campaign. SJU student wellness is featured as one of the 43 Giving Challenges taking place across the University of Waterloo and its federated and affiliated partner campuses. Each challenge is raising money to achieve financial goals for student initiatives chosen by a Challenge Champion, who will match donations made up to a specific amount. All gifts made to SJU’s online campaign on November 29th to the St. Jerome's Student Wellness Initiative Fund (up to $5,000) will be matched 1:1 by our Champion (for the second year), former chair of the SJU Board of Governors, and alumna, Mary Ellen Cullen.
“As the SJU community evolves, so do the needs of the people within it. Right now, SJU needs our help to provide services to meet the physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental health needs of students. By addressing these needs, and in pursuit of the mission of SJU, we can help students build resilience and capacity to deal with whatever life sends their way.” Cullen has noted, “ A lot has changed since I was a student at SJU. But the one constant is that SJU is a caring community. Please join me in giving to the St. Jerome's Student Wellness Initiative Fund, and help SJU students grow to be resilient, courageous leaders.”
Each year the University joins the global Giving Tuesday movement to generate and inspire generosity in the world. Since 2012, the simple idea of following Black Friday and Cyber Monday with an online giving day has inspired millions of people worldwide to bring change to their communities. Locally SJU has championed the Giving Tuesday message with the University of Waterloo since 2014.
“Once again, St. Jerome’s University is proud to have one of our treasured alumna, Mary Ellen Cullen, as our Challenge Champion for Giving Tuesday”, noted SJU’s President and Vice Chancellor, Peter Meehan. “Mary Ellen’s generosity reflects her appreciation for the ways that SJU supported her during her undergraduate experience, and I know that many of our alumni feel the same way. Generosity as well as an appreciation for the importance of educating and forming leaders of conscience for the world are central to St. Jerome’s mission. I encourage all of our alumni and other donors to support this critical work for SJU at the University of Waterloo.”
Students need our support as the inflation rates and continued uncertainty with COVID are impacting student life and wellness. They are finding it hard to cope and remain hopeful. Your donation can help provide resources and support to our students.
Funding from the Student Wellness Initiative Fund has supported a complete review of the Student Wellness and Mental Health programs and supports at St. Jerome’s University. This includes engaging an experienced consultant who has made recommendations addressing the intellectual, physical, social, emotional, and spiritual growth of our students.
Please consider participating in the Giving Tuesday campaign this year by donating directly to the SJU Challenge page using the following link. All gifts made through the Giving Tuesday site will receive a tax receipt for the full value of the gift.
