Mills and Neang 2019 Headley Essay Winners
Congratulations to this year’s Betty G. Headley Senior Essay Award winners – Tristan Mills (course related essay) and Vinny Neang (personal essay). Both took first place in the annual contest honouring the memory of the mother of St. Jerome’s University graduate Sara Elizabeth “Sally” Headley (BA ‘04 - English Language and Literature). The contest is overseen by the university’s Librarian and a Selection Committee that reviews all submissions.
Mills’ essay “The Incantations of The Apple Trees at Olema” and Neang’s “Exploring My Mental Health” were chosen by the Selection Committee to receive 2019’s top honours and were awarded financial prizes. Honourable mentions were also given to course related essays submitted by Jude Blasutti, Mila Sevo and Julianna Suderman; and a personal essay by Brianna D’Alessandro. All of these essays are available to read on the university’s website on the Betty G. Headley Senior Essay Award pages dedicated to this contest.
