Annual Student Award Nominations due March 31st
Members of the St. Jerome’s University (SJU) community are invited to submit nominations for the university’s annual graduating and continuing student awards. Each year multiple students at the university are recognized for academic excellence and contributions to student life and community-building. Nominations for awards acknowledge these achievements, and are reviewed by an awards committee as part of the selection process. Recipients are recognized with a personalized plaque. Their name is also added to a plaque hung on campus that celebrates all previous recipients.
“We continue to be grateful for the work of our highly engaged and impressive students,” noted Sue Brubacher, the university’s Director, Enrolment and Upper Year Transitions. “We look to our community of students, faculty, and staff to help identify and nominate students for these awards to mark these significant accomplishments.”
The Graduating Student awards, including The Zack Ralston Award and University Life Award, recognize academic excellence and contributions to student life and community-building at St. Jerome’s University. The Community Contribution Award acknowledges contributions to student life and community-building. Service outside of campus to local, hometown, national, and international communities may also be considered for all of the aforementioned awards.
There are four Continuing Student Awards, each with its own unique criteria. The D.R. Letson Community Service Award recognizes voluntary community service beyond campus. The Todd Earl Spirit Award acknowledges exceptional enthusiasm through passionate engagement in student life. The SJU Students’ Union Distinguished Leader Award recognizes outstanding student leadership within the SJU community; and the SJU Students’ Union Local Initiative Awards acknowledges a student who has contributed significantly to the local community over the past year. Recipients receiving the latter two awards also receive a gift of $250.
Members of the SJU community are encouraged to submit their award nominations online by March 31, 2021. To find out more information or to access the nomination forms, please visit the Student Awards website page.*
“Despite a unique year, there remains much to celebrate,” added Brubacher. “We’re proud of our students, and we want to be sure that they know it.”
*Students who have been nominated for a Graduating Student Award (Zack Ralston, University Life, Community Contribution) will receive a link to complete a form to create their candidate profile. One completed reference must be named in that profile, who is not the same as the nominator. The completed candidate profile and nomination package must be received by April 9, 2021. Candidates are considered for all eligible awards.
