Meet Katie!
18 Mar, 2020

It’s time to introduce another important group within the St. Jerome’s community – first year students! First year students help to build and continue on the community of St. Jerome’s. In this post we will meet Katie Szajbely a current St. Jerome’s first year student studying in the faculty of Applied Health Sciences.

In what ways have you become a part of the St. Jerome's community in your first year?

So far I’ve had my PSYCH 101 class in the SJ2 Academic Center. This past term, I was part of the SJU Ambassador team as an Experience Guide giving tours to prospective students and visitors when they come to campus. I also regularly attend on campus events and programming run by upper year student on our Student Activities Team!

What advice would you give to an incoming St. Jerome's student who is starting their degree in the fall 2020 term?

Make sure you stay organized and keep on top of your work. Learn which study habits work best for you, as it is different for everyone. Most importantly, make sure that you take care of yourself. Study hard, but don’t burn yourself out!

What are your plans going forward now that you are heading into your second year?

I am hoping to be a part of the Student Activities Team at SJU, or an orientation leader in my faculty. I also hope to be selected as a Student Ambassador for the UWaterloo Visitor’s Centre, and I want to continue to be an Experience Guide here at St. Jerome’s so that I can continue to share my love for both UW and SJU to prospective students!

If you have any suggestions for content that you would love to read about on our blog, please send an email to outreach@sju.ca! We would love to know what our students are interested in reading and knowing more about.
